About Meryl

It was in 1981, for my daughter’s first birthday, I started to make novelty cakes, each year becoming more and more elaborate than the previous. Other people began to ask if I would make a special cake for their children or husband. It was not until I was asked to make a wedding cake for a friend that I thought of trying sugar paste: In May 1992 I began the first of many courses.

This hobby then progressed on to cold porcelain paste, at that time it was very new in England having just been introduced from Argentina. The techniques are not unlike sugar craft, but the paste is much more robust and longer lasting. I have modelled life size flowers for decorating the home as well as bridal bouquets; I have also made miniature animals for home decoration.

In November 1995 I set up business in a small craft unit at Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, selling only completed pieces. In the unit I would demonstrate how to make the items it was at this time people were constantly asking me to teach them how to use the paste. I took a teaching certificate and started workshops. In August 1997, having tried and enjoyed Pergamano (parchment craft) I became a Registered Pergamano Tutor and began to hold workshops in card making. Around this time I introduced rubber stamps to my stock, with a natural progression to workshops using the stamps.

Over the last ten years I have taught and demonstrating a variety of crafts, in various locations, from small ladies groups to large events such as the Hobby and Craft show in Birmingham and craft events at Crystal Palace London.

I continue to teach all three crafts in various locations throughout the Nottinghamshire area. Bridal arrangements are still a very important aspect of my work; it gives great satisfaction to make something so special, so personal. More recently I have started to design and make my own rubber stamps including personal stamps from customers' own designs.

In August 2007  I started working for TrimCraft as one of their demonstrators, which is a pleasure as I get to meet a lot of like minded crafty people throughout the country.  Please have a look at my Events page to see if I am demonstrating near you.
